I’m sure I’ve mentioned my love affair with Jean Paul Gaultier’s work before. He is an eternal inspiration to me for both his work in fashion & film (how could you forget The Fifth Element?!) so I’m always excited to see his collections when they show during fashion week. His Fall 2012 Couture collection did not disappoint as you will soon see. It has just that right amount of high fashion & fanciful costumery that I, personally, adore.
Top hats & Edwardian silhouettes & sheer paneling, oh my! I love, love, LOVE the varying looks & textures in this collection. The fusion of sheers, satins, velvets, & solid brocades are outstanding & perfect to convey that feel that Fall collections usually have. I also love the menswear suiting. The dapper jackets are really fresh…and I’ve always been a fan of the cropped suit jacket look for men. I’m also a fan of how sheer fabrics are being used in this collection. When you use them to make patterns, I think it adds an element of class that can be lost depending upon how they’re placed. Actually, there is a look in this collection of a sheer panel right across the chest that I wasn’t a fan of, but you can win ‘em all!
Anyway, I’m very pleased with this collection. From color to fabric to silhouette, I think its a perfect high fashion glimpse into what will be all that’s hot for this upcoming fall. Be sure to check out the rest of the collection!
